Import from Google Photos into Siegu

A private, offline way to leave Google Photos. Export with Google Takeout, import into Siegu, and let on-device AI organize and index everything on your own machine. Nothing is uploaded.

  1. 1. Export your library

Go to takeout.google.com, deselect all products, then re-select Google Photos. Choose an archive size that fits your connection and export.

  2. 2. Download and extract

Google emails you one or more archives (ZIP or TGZ). Download them all and extract them into a folder on the machine where Siegu lives.

  3. 3. Install Siegu

Grab the free Siegu app for Windows, macOS or Linux. It works offline and never uploads your photos.

  4. 4. Import the extracted folder

In Siegu, import an existing library and point it at the extracted Takeout folder. Takeout keeps your media in folders such as Photos from 2020 plus an Albums folder — you can import the whole extract or individual folders.

  5. 5. Let on-device AI do the rest

Siegu deduplicates, organizes and indexes your photos for AI search — all on your device, even offline. Once it's in and double-checked, you can delete the cloud originals from Google Photos.

Imported from iCloud? The same import flow works: download your iCloud library, then import the folder into Siegu. The processing still happens locally and privately.
